Not all monsters are bad. I mean, can a monster be bad when she spends her time getting rid of bad guys? The real monsters—predatory humans? That's right. I said monster. That's me. I don't consider myself a monster, but the world does. I've gone through my short life—nineteen years—thinking that I'm the only one of my kind. Until I discover I'm not. There's so many of us. Monsters. Mythical creatures. And a whole bunch of the others live at the Netherside Home for Wayward Girls. As if being a monster isn't complication enough, there are hunters after us. Boys. They steal us away from Netherside. They kill us. They are ruthless. Now it's time for them to find out how ruthless mythological girls can be. The biggest complication? A golden eyed hunter boy named after a fallen angel. Or is he actually the fallen angel himself?

I still don't consider myself a monster but I'm imprisoned by a group that insists I am the worst of monsters. I'm tormented. I'm tortured. Harassed. Harangued.   And now I find myself dealing with the boy named after an angel. On. A. Regular. Basis. Oh, and lest I forget, I'm also dealing with a sadistic hunter who insists on leaving me bruised and battered.   I want to be back at Netherside more than anything in the world. That doesn't look likely. Not under these circumstances. I supposed I'll be lucky if I survive this ordeal.

Escape is only the beginning…   A monster? I guess I might have been called worse. Or maybe not. We've found ourselves on the run after killing our enemies' leader, with a stolen Jeep to get rid of. We want to be back at Netherside Home for Wayward Girls so bad, so very bad, but yet, we are dealing with escaping monsters. Wait. Escaping monster hunters. I almost forgot—we're the monsters, after all. At least, according to society.   After a harrowing escape from a nightmarish compound, a group of us, women with long scaly tails and an unnaturally large wolf make our way to an invisible safehouse in a small village. Despite being out of immediate danger, we are still on edge as we fear being tracked down by our captors at any moment. As we make our way to Netherside, memories of the torture and malnourishment we endured at the hands of the hunters haunt us, and we struggle to come to terms with the fact that our fate is still uncertain.

It's all my fault… A reckless decision to trust someone too easily has put my friends in grave danger, and it's all my fault. As a child in the foster care system, I learned to rely only on myself, but meeting Astra and forming a friendship circle changed that. Despite being willing to sacrifice myself for my friends, my blind trust in my sister, Amber, led to our capture by the hunters. Now, trapped in the mountain fortress of the true leader of the hunters, I realize that it's our chosen families that we can truly depend on.
