An interview with the author
Q……..
What was your inspiration for the 4th children's short storybook?
A……
Kassuku was our real family parrot, so the story of his life was in my head already.
My memories of him are magical. He really was a delightful African Grey, born in the Ugandan jungle. The facts about his life are true: his telling of African legends around a fire pit is, of course, part of the Tales From Over The Moon!
Is there a message in the story?
A…..
I think the message is to be happy wherever you find yourself and in whatever you do. The best decisions are made from this place.
As far as I know, Kassuku was happy in his domesticated life.
But his true purpose, I cannot help but feel, was to remain in the wild where he was born and where he could fly freely amongst fellow parrots.
Having said that, had he not been put in a shopping bag, we would never have had the pleasure of his company!

I noticed, just how busy I was, every day doing the same repeated chores! We had a small house and a very large dog, so I would go to the cupboard and get the hoover out and mop the floor, every day. The other characters came from the various, very funny menagerie of pets that my family has known over the years! My elder son would always wear his school blazer to do his homework, so in a similar fashion, I gave Busy Miss Hoover "a rather lovely thinking hat" to wear, so that she could better daydream! A sort of busy wizard's magic wand, if you see the connection! Something that turns on the magic! Q... Is there a message in the book? A.... I like to think that there is a message for most of us in the book. To realize the value of time taken for yourself, not only to recharge but to let your mind wander into deeper thinking, feeling, and just ruminating to reconnect with yourself at a deeper level. In Busy Miss Hoover's case, it is her daydreaming that connects her with her inner self, and she makes her decisions from that place. I think allowing yourself to daydream even as a youngster, is a great asset throughout life.

About the Author My writing came about organically, it wasn't something I had planned, as it were. I have always loved reading and books have been an amazing support for me throughout my life. They have traveled everywhere with me. As a youngster, my family lived overseas. My grandmother used to send (from the UK ) rolled-up comics every week to my sister Christine and me. At the time we lived in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. The comics were one of the highlights of the week. To this day, Dennis the Menace, Desperate Dan, and Beryl the Peril remain on the list of my best-loved characters.
