About this series

Book 3 of the trilogy of sociopoilitical, historical thrillers starts with Nelson Mandela's release from prison in 1990.

Ivan Pettersen and Thembani Dlamini, two brilliant university students, are haunted by the actions of their past activist lives. While trying to settle down, Thembani marries Nkosinati Khumalo, and Ivan falls in love with Lydiah Adams. Both women are widows, their husbands killed by police and their proxies.

Dr Stanley Gershon, and his friend Fay Ismail, again become involved in the escalating conflicts of all the major characters. In the rebellious turmoil in the segregated townships, necklacing of opposition members with burning tyres around their necks becomes popular.

Ivan and Thembani cross paths with security police officer, Leeu (Lion) Kloppers, an ex-member of a South West African death squad, now a member of the secretive police Balaclava Gang attempting to derail the process towards majority rule in South Africa.

In 1994, the main characters' hopes and expectations for the future all peak in the shadow of Table Mountain on the day of the first democratic elections in South Africa.

In Fury and Revenge in Cape Town Dr Stanley Gershon is a dedicated embattled GP working in a Cape Town township shanty housing complex on the Cape Flats, long regarded as apartheid's dumping ground in the Mother City. He is beset by the poverty-related triad of diseases, crime and violence. Together with his close friend Jim Davids, his girlfriend Fay Ismail and Detective Adams and his activist university student daughter Lydiah, all the characters become embroiled in the political and police violence immediately following the 1976 massacre of over 60 school children in Soweto. They also become embroiled in a series of vicious attacks on township paedophiles in the already tense slum township where nationwide student-driven insurrection is in full swing to topple apartheid. All the action takes place in the shadow of the emblematic Table Mountain in the fairest Cape in the world. (67,000 words)

Book 2 deals with heightened insurrection in Cape Town in 1985-1986 during an intense period of police brutality, adding to the dangers of those living in the Cape Flats segregated townships. The action results in several deaths during the Pollsmoor march to release Mandela, The Trojan Horse Massacre, the Gugulethu 7 massacre and the Crossroads and TRC shanty "Fires of 1986" caused by government-supported Witdoek (White cloth) forces who laid waste to informal housing with several deaths and many people rendered homeless. Four young victims of the police violence, Curtis Fouche, Thembani Dlamini, Pat de Bruin, and Ebrahim Khan formulate their own radical plot. Their romantic entanglements complicate their dangerous plans for increased activism in the Mother City. Once again, Dr Stanley Gershon and his girlfriend, Fay Ismail get caught up in much of the action swirling around them, and, in the process, become involved with the infamous security policeman, Warrant Officer Hammer van Zyl. All the characters become embroiled in the political brutality of South Africa's struggle towards majority rule. Will they survive the violence on the Cape Flats, apartheid's dumping ground in the shadow of Table Mountain? (75,500 words, 264pages)
