About this series
How does a simple day at the museum turn out so wrong?
One minute, Duke and Lilly are looking at ancient dwarven artifacts, and the next a Demon-Lord from the Pit is laying waste to the whole town.
It's going to take the combined power of all of Capital City's greatest champions to have any chance of stopping him. And even then, it won't be easy.
Can Duke and Lilly save the day? Or will one of them have to make the ultimate sacrifice?

- Tales of a Nuisance Man: The Duke Grandfather Saga, #1
1
Never shoot an ogre in the face. . . that's only one of the painful lessons I learned over the course of my career. My name is Duke. Duke Grandfather. And for years, I was the best at what I did. From the moment I first saw the barbarian and what he did to the goblin, my course was set. I loved my life and the freedom I had to sleep late and drink ale whenever I wanted. Then that dwarf changed everything. . . Well, change was overdue anyway, and—as a bonus—it led me to the attention of Lilly. And she changed my life even more than the dwarf had. Orcs in love, elder beings, and rogue witches' brooms. I've seen it all. I've even had to kill a friend. Pull up a chair. Buy me an ale or three and, in return, I'll tell you all about it.
- Duke Grandfather Saves the World*: The Duke Grandfather Saga, #2

I still couldn't stand magic… even though the woman I loved was one of the most powerful necromancers in the Watch. Things were heating up between Lilly and I. Pretty soon, she was spending more time at my house than she was at her own. I liked to think it was because of me, not just because she wanted to be closer to the Brownies in my basement. I was content with things the way they were. At least, until I heard the wailing and found myself well on my way to checking out. That was just the beginning, although we didn't know that yet. Soon, the city was overrun by bugs, foul-mouthed birds, and shapeless blobs. To top it all off, a small minotaur decided he wanted to be my sidekick. And it was all because someone wanted to destroy the city. Grab an ale, and don't forget mine while you're at it. Sit back and get comfortable. It's a long story, but it's a good one.
- Duke Grandfather Hears Voices: The Duke Grandfather Saga, #3
3
I really don't mind when Lilly tells me what to do. . . But when the orders are coming from inside my own head, that's a little different. For years, people have wondered where I got my magic Gun. It's a unique weapon and one I'm not willing to give up. At least not yet. I've been hesitant to tell the story, to be honest. When you start talking about a mysterious voice that only you can hear, folks look at you funny. And when that voice is compelling you to go in certain directions and do certain things, that just makes it even worse. Even as a young Nuisance Man, I'd seen my share of weirdness in Capital City. But I still wasn't prepared for reality-shifting talking dogs, being cast as a fairy-tale noble for a little girl's birthday party, or a giant orc, who seemed to take making my life miserable as a sacred duty. The voice wasn't all bad, though. It got rid of my hangover once. . . when it needed to me to do something, of course. And it even helped me avenge an innocent old man's murder. One more round of ale for the road. Actually, this is kind of a long story. You might want to make it three. It's worth your time, I promise.
