About this series

Jimmie Alfred is learning to dance his family's traditional regalia in his village in the Pacific northwest. Ngarra Nungurra is the guardian of sacred tjuringas on a remote island off the coast of northern Australia. When both are murdered, RCMP detective, Dan Connor, is sent to investigate, but there have been no sightings of strangers in these tightly knit communities, only reports of mysterious spirit beings.

Connor lives in a world of cold, hard facts. It's his friend, Walker, who is familiar with the world of spirits, but this time Walker can't help. With the death count rising, and the woman he loves threatened, can Connor rely on his own instincts to sort fact from fable?

"Fabulous! McMillen makes the stark islands off western Canada a character as vivid and compelling as her main protagonists. If you pick up this book, prepare to lose a weekend." Kelly Hayes-Raitt. Living Large in Limbo.

"Her writing is impeccable, with each word carefully chosen and perfect for the situation, each character unique and memorable." Keira Morgan. The Importance of Pawns.

"A long-awaited addition to a captivating series of books with inimitable characters." Antonio Rambles. Mirasol Redemption.

"A mix of provocative and memorable characters, murder, stolen sacred objects and practitioners of voodoo make this an engrossing, and at times even funny page turner."  Armando García-Dávila, The Trip - Speeding Toward the Cliff at the end of the World.

It's been more than eight years since Dan Connor put a troubled criminal named Walker behind bars, and a year since he handed in his badge. The remote islands off the Pacific Northwest coast seem like the perfect destination for his retirement until waves of increasingly sinister events disrupt his peace. When a mysterious boat drives him from his anchorage and a marine biologist working in the area goes missing, Dan teams up with Walker who has returned to his traditional way of living since his release from jail. As a life hangs in the balance and others are threatened, the knowledge and skills of these two men from very different cultures are the perfect mix. With an eclectic cast of characters and a riveting plot, Dark Moon Walking is a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep you turning the pages until its explosive conclusion.    "Dark Moon Walking is a terrific read from the very first page. The characters are vivid, deeply and interestingly flawed. The setting, a remote island in the Pacific Northwest, is described so well one can almost hear the rain dripping off the pines and the salmon jumping upstream. Told from three points of view it is the story of an uneasy truce between two old enemies- Walker and the man who put him in jail, Dan Connor. Fans of thrillers will enjoy this, of course. But it should have a wider audience. After all who doesn't love a love story? Or a story with boats? Or a wilderness setting? Small perfect details signal that McMillen knows boats, and the waters of the Pacific northwest. There is not a superfluous word in the book. A pure pleasure to read. Roberta Rich Author of The Midwife of Venice Trilogy

Walker's tracking skills point the search in the right direction, but the body they find is not the woman but a young boy. Tthe two men, each from a very different culture, combine their skills and resources to launch a manhunt for a kidnapper and a killer.   "A pure pleasure to read."  Roberta Rich, author of The Midwife of Venice and The Harem Midwife.   "The best book I have read all year."   Tim Floritto   "If you pick up this book, prepare to lose a weekend." A cold and calculating serial killer is on the loose, brutally claiming the lives of pipeline employes. Authorities suspect a Haida man—a friend of Walker—and after a sixth person goes missing, Walker enlists the help of RCMP officer Dan Connor to help uncover the truth. As the two men immerse themselves in the search, the body count keeps rising and it seems no one can escape the path of the killer. Evocative and suspenseful, Green River Falling contrasts the pristine beauty of British Columbia's remote west coast—and the people dedicated to preserving it—with the disastrous effects of corporate greed.   "You can almost smell the salt air and feel the trees. That, along with some interesting characters, makes for a terrific...book." — Margaret Cannon. Globe and Mail.   "Authentic characters, terrific dialogue . . . Highy recommended for mystery buffs who yearn for Canadian settings and our inimitable dialogue." — Caroline Woodward, author of Light Years.   "The settings and the atmosphere will enchant readers." — Booklist
