While exploring a cave with his friend, 16-year-old Nathan stumbles upon someone unexpected: Science Officer Satou of The Explorers' League. Satou is equally surprised, and after Nathan breaks through the security barrier, he does the only thing he can and takes Nathan with him, forever changing the balance of the universe. Nathan is introduced to the Consortium: an intergalactic league of explorers, scientists, soldiers and diplomats. He also discovers the Universal Map - an ancient artifact locked away long ago by the mysterious Cartographer. After Nathan accidentally unlocks the Universal Map, a chain of events is set in motion... one that threatens to tear at the very fabric of the universe, and to destroy Earth.

Mankind faced extinction centuries ago, but with the help of the intergalactic Consortium they were rescued from the brink of destruction. This time, Nathan Chambers will have to fight a war on two fronts if he hopes to prevent their demise. The conflict will test the endurance of his friendships, the strength of his body and the toughness of his character, and he will need to shed his naive teenage persona and be reborn as the defender his allies desperately need. Reborn introduces the Twelve Timeless - ancient survivors of a universal catastrophe - who pledge their help to Nathan's cause. But will their assistance be enough to prevent history from repeating itself?

The Consortium has been shattered. Mankind has nearly been eradicated, and Caelum is close to civil war. With the galaxy in disorder, the Insurgents are out of allies and time. Despite the assistance of the ancient collective known as the Twelve Timeless, they are failing. Even worse, Nathan is drifting ever deeper into a darkness he never experienced before. He is losing a little piece of himself with every death of someone close to him. Can he become the man he needs to be to save the universe... and himself?
