Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing Series
()
About this series
There are plenty of easy-to-use book formatting options out there for self-publishers these days. And if all you want is a basic formatting solution, it's probably best to go with one of those.
But if you ever hit a point where you want more control over your book formatting, then you're going to want to use a program that gives you control over every paragraph and line and field in your book. And also allows complete control over any image placement and attributes.
When that point comes, Affinity Publisher is one of the best choices on the market. And it's a one-time fee (at least as of June 2022) to purchase.
This book will walk you through how to use Affinity Publisher for both a simple fiction layout with an accent image as well as other more advanced topics such as how to insert tables of contents, indexes, and images.
It combines Affinity Publisher for Fiction Layouts and Affinity Publisher for Non-Fiction, and is part of the larger Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing series which also covers how to create ad images and basic covers.

- Affinity Publisher for Fiction Layouts: Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing, #1

Most self-publishers focus their time and attention on publishing ebooks. And when they do publish in print they tend to use either Word or Vellum or the print option provided by D2D. For those who want to move beyond the constraints of these choices, Affinity Publisher is one of the best options available. It's a one-time purchase software that allows for a fully-customized print layout. The only limitation is the skill of the user. This book aims to give beginners to Affinity Publisher the skills to create a basic print layout for a fiction title that includes a title page, also by page, copyright information, about the author, and, of course, the main body of the document. The layout created in this book also includes an image in the front matter, back matter, and chapter starts to add a little something extra. To use this book you should be familiar with the basics of how to work in a Microsoft Office-type program, so know what dropdowns, dialogue boxes, etc. are. Ideally you should also know the basics of formatting for print although that will be mentioned as we go. So if you're ready to take your print fiction formatting to the next level, then click buy and let's get started.
- Affinity Publisher for Ad Creatives: Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing, #2

Advertising Helps Sell Books. And for many forms of advertising, such as Facebook, Amazon A+ Content, Bookbub CPC ads, web sites, and more, you need to be able to provide your own advertising images. You could pay a designer for that and wait for them to slot you into their schedule, but it's a much better idea to learn how to do basic ad creatives yourself. That way you can pivot quickly and experiment to find what the best ad is for your particular book. That's what this book aims to teach you. How to use Affinity Publisher to create basic advertising images. And, yes, it is in Affinity Publisher not Affinity Photo because what we're going to cover in this book is how to take existing elements like a book cover, stock photo, and review quote and combine those elements into an effective ad. We don't need heavy-duty image manipulation for that and since Affinity Publisher can also be used for the design of your book interior it saves you a few bucks to use it for ads, too. (And basic book covers if you go on to buy the next book in this series.) So if you're ready to take your self-publishing skills to the next level, buy this book and let's dive in. Please note that the print version of this book is in black and white but the ebook version has color images available if your ereader is in color. You can learn the skills you need from either version, but there are certain images in the book that are better viewed in color.
- Affinity Publisher for Basic Book Covers: Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing, #3

Sometimes you just want to put together a basic book cover for a lead magnet or a short story related to your main series. Or maybe, like me, you have the patience of a gnat and don't want to wait six months to have a cover designed by someone else when the book is ready to go NOW. Or maybe money is tight and you're trying to see if that book you wrote has any potential without bankrupting yourself. Or you're ready to put that book out in print, but in your genre you know it's not going to sell all that many print copies. Or in large print. Whatever the reason, you're looking to design your own cover but you don't want to go through the trial and error of figuring out a design software on your own. Well, good news, especially if you already read Affinity Publisher for Ad Creatives. This book is here to walk you through how to use Affinity Publisher to create three basic ebook covers: one with a central image, one with a side image, and one with an image that fills the entire cover. And then we'll walk through how to take that ebook cover and turn it into a paperback for Amazon KDP and IngramSpark as well as a hard cover for IngramSpark. When you finish this book will you be able to create a book cover like the masters who charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars for their work? No. But you will be able to put together a nice, servicable cover that leverages stock photos. And sometimes that's all you need. So let's go. Take your self-publishing to the next level today. Please note that the print version of this book is in black and white but the ebook version has color images available if your ereader is in color. You can learn the skills you need from either version, but there are certain images in the book that are better viewed in color.
- Affinity Publisher for Non-Fiction: Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing, #4
4
In Affinity Publisher for Fiction Layouts, M.L. Humphrey covered how to create a basic print title using master pages, text styles, paragraph formatting, text formatting, text flow, and more. Affinity Publish for Non-Fiction continues from there with subjects that are related to advanced fiction formatting as well as non-fiction formatting. In this book you will learn how to insert a table of contents into a book, how to create and insert an index, how to merge multiple documents into one collection, and how to work with images within your text. In addition, you'll learn how to use section headers and have multiple columns on a page as well as how to make basic image adjustments. So if you're ready to take your print formatting to the next level, let's get started.
- Affinity Publisher for Ads and Covers: Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing
If you're going to self-publish, it helps to be able to create your own ad images and book covers. Even if you want to pay for a fancy cover for your main title there are going to be times when you want to have a loss leader short story or where you want to have a banner image for your Facebook page. And it isn't going to make sense to pay a designer for that type of work. (Not unless you're richer than most authors or doing really, really well.) So that's where this book comes in. It will walk you through basic design principles and then show you a number of examples for how to create Amazon A+ Content, banner images, Facebook and BookBub ads, as well as basic covers. This book combines two individual titles, Affinity Publisher for Ad Creatives and Affinity Publisher for Basic Book Covers which are both part of the larger series, Affinity Publisher for Self-Publishing. Note that the program used here is Affinity Publisher not Affinity Photo. Being able to use the same program for book formatting and basic images saves just that little bit extra in terms of expenses. If you have Photo or are going to use a program like GIMP or Photoshop the high-level discussions and examples here may still be useful, but the how-to portion will be different in each of those programs.

Hi there Sci Fi fans, my name is Maurice Humphrey.I am a Vermont native, husband, father, grandfather, well over 60, Navy veteran, retired IBM engineer, retired printer repairman, Graduated: Goddard Jr. College, VT Technical College, and Trinity College. Over the years I’ve written technical articles, taught technical classes, and presented at technical conventions.I’ve been reading science fiction for over 50 years now. First books were “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” by Jules Verne and “The Stars Are Ours” by Andre Norton. I’ve read and collected many great stories, and a considerable amount of junk ones as well. I’d say by now that I probably have a good idea of what I consider a good story.
