Butterpond Mysteries Series

One competition. Five winning teams. A trip to Washington, D.C.    The annual History of Magical Communities Competition has rolled around. This is a schoolwide event and the prize for winning? A trip to Washington, D.C. For 3M, this will be their first time leaving Butterpond, and are excited about the prospect of winning, but when Hayley Winthorpe, an eighth grader, challenges them, Mira, Meghan, and Maya have their collective eye set on beating Hayley and her cronies. Will these seventh graders beat out the eighth grade presentations? Will Mira, Meghan, and Maya finally see the world outside of Butterpond, Connecticut?   

Thirteen Founders. Thirteen Roots. Three girls must find them all.    After passing the tests the Founders put before them, and making it back out of the sunflower fairy-ring alive, Meghan, Mira, and Maya now face an even more daunting task… gathering the rest of the Roots. Who would believe their story? Besides, they're all three grounded and that puts some heavy constraints on the time they have to find and convince them all to help save the town.    Meghan is having some troubles at home now too. Her new powers are stirring up some strong feelings, and when she finds out a key piece of her history while researching Roots, she unlocks a whole new truth about who she is and where she comes from.    Mira is grounded. But her grounding looks a little different from a normal kid's grounding. No books, no helping make dinner, no tucking in her little sisters for bed and three weeks of community center classes after school. Mira finds this utterly uproarious. She doesn't enjoy socializing more than the mandatory three to four hours at school every day. She doesn't enjoy being the new girl in every class. And she especially doesn't like that in each class she takes, she somehow hurts someone with her clumsiness.  Maya is also grounded, except for orchestra practice and studying at the library. After her amazing solo and the orchestra's overall phenomenal performance at the Halloween Festival, they're invited to play during a charity event for one of the most prestigious Non-profit organizations in Butterpond. There will only be five players allowed, and the music will be contemporary. This is an opportunity Maya's been waiting for since she started playing in the middle school orchestra, but how will she tell her parents?

The shield protecting Butterpond has fallen. Eleven Roots are locked up in holding. Time is running out.    Maya, Meghan, and Mira are stuck in a holding cell at the Guardian Station with eight other thirteen-year-olds for a crime they didn't commit. There are two Roots on the outside, but they have no hope in those two breaking them out. They didn't believe the truth.    Time seems to be moving slowly, but that doesn't make their hour any longer.    Maya is tired of all the roadblocks that just keep getting in their way. It seems like one thing after another. She must choose whether to continue on or throw in the towel. Will she choose the path for her purpose, or will she choose the path of least resistance like her parents want?    Meghan is still reeling from what happened at her testing. Can she be a good leader if her default method for getting out of a tight spot is lying? Can she lead these people, her classmates, into a life or death situation?  Mira is ready to end all of this. Her anxiety about Haven's well-being is sending her into panic mode. He hasn't spoken to her since they left the library. Are they already too late? Will they even make it out of the jail cell in time to save Haven from dissipation? 

  One prophecy. Three girls. A history about to be revealed.    4oo years ago, Magicals founded Haven on All Hallows's Eve. In creating the town, something else was created too, a sentient being that hovers over the town, only kept inside by the shield.    In the present, Butterpond, Connecticut, is gearing up for their big Halloween Festival, but there is something not right with the shield… and only three thirteen-year-old girls can fix it.   Mira is a great daughter, an exemplary big sister, and a straight-A student. That is, until a trip to Washington, DC, landed her with a big fat B in History of Magic. Now, she'll have to compete against the eighth graders (again) for the extra credit she needs to restore her A. Will she and her friends be able to win?   Meghan has the soccer semi-final championship coming up. She has to be on her game to help Butterpond Middle School win. It's been five years since they had the championship victory, and Meghan is determined to bring it back. But when she starts seeing visions, a whole new worry begins to plague her.    Maya is playing with her school's orchestra in the concert that kicks off the Halloween Festival. There's a solo spot she hopes to gain with music she's written herself. But will Ms. Chester believe in her contemporary music, or will Maya concede to her parents suggestions for classical music?   There's two weeks before a total collapse of the shield, the prophecy has found its chosen three, but will they accept their fate and save Butterpond?
