New jobs can be murder… At least, that's what it seems like to Emma Harmon of Cape Hope. She's got a new job blogging about food and she's super-thrilled to be traveling to a new resort to sample the fare and meet local celebrities. One of who is First-Kiss-Robbie. The first boy to kiss her, he's a famous chef now. She finds out her photographer is a hot guy with a major chip on his shoulder. More like an iceberg, considering the way Deke treats her. She's not so thrilled when she discovers a body in the sand dunes. One with a knife sticking out of him. A chef knife. Robbie's chef knife. She's even less thrilled when she makes the mistake of handling the knife. Now, she's under suspicion and Detective McHottie's got his eye on her—and not in a good way. Luckily, this time, it's not Emma. Unfortunately, it's a new author that Emma's become quite a fan of. Not to mention, Emma's convinced this debuting author did not kill the dead guy in the pool. Emma's got her hands full, what with her mom's best friends always on her heels, a killer on the loose, and of course, trying to keep out of Detective McHottie's way. And thoroughly failing.

It's the special day Emma and Joe have been waiting for. It's a day that Darcy's been stressing out over for months. She's no wedding planner but that hasn't stopped her from doing all she can to make this day perfect. Despite their mother's frustration that the new caterer has decided to open shop a few blocks away from their mother's café.   Despite the fact that their parents are divorced and their father has moved on and now has a baby with a much younger women. Despite the fact that someone tried to strangle Darcy at the reception and even more importantly that the new caterer—who's not exactly ugly—had saved her from the assault.   Why can't there be a simple wedding without chaos and mayhem in Cape Hope?

Let no good deed go unpunished. At least, that's what it feels like to Darcy Harmon. She's helping a friend out, doing a favor, delivering flowers to a funeral when one of the attendees dies on the spot. Right there at the funeral. Right in front of Darcy.   She can't let that go without investigating, can she? Especially not after attempts on her own life. If only she could get Pete to talk to her. But nope, that officer's having nothing to do with her. What could make matters worse?   Helping her mother arrange a baby shower for Emma. Not only is their mother a basket case from the arrangements, she's also got a summer cold and can't bake for the event. Which leaves only one option. You guessed it. Ethan. Things just got worse, didn't they?

Who'd think an innocent early morning walk on the beach would yield a sealed bottle with a mysterious set of letters from decades ago?   Certainly not Darcy Harmon, but that's exactly what she's come across.  And leave it to her sister Emma, the family's resident amateur sleuth to try to take the mystery away from Darcy.  Well, Darcy's having none of it. It's her mystery to solve and she's not sharing it. At least, not until someone tries to take her life. Twice.    Now, she's suddenly open to having some help to find answers to the questions spawned by the mysterious messages in the letters that washed in on the tide.  

Darcy's got an interview with a local paper. Cool, right? Well, maybe not. Why's she got reservations about doing the interview when anyone she tells about it encourages her to jump at the chance. So, Darcy jumped. Only she finds her remote interview over Zoom comes to an untimely end when her interviewer is attacked. Luckily, Darcy manages to extricate herself from the situation unscathed because the attacker doesn't know who the witness to the crime was. Until he does. Now Darcy's in a race to find out who the perpetrator is before he can find her.

It should have been the perfect idea, right? A bake-off to take the pressure off Sylvia Harmon whose ex is getting remarried, thereby eliminating the pressure Emma and Darcy are under.   Brilliant, or so Darcy thought. Until it became time to talk Ethan Crosby into it.   Until the mayor ended up dead.   Until Aunt Trixie's accused—by the whole town!—of killing the mayor.   Now Cape Hope has a mystery on its hands and Darcy simply can't help herself.   Again.

One simple, little auction. What could happen, right?   Darcy's got an invitation to join Ethan at an auction. No, this isn't the date he supposedly asked her out for a while ago. This is a favor for his cousin who's some well-known New York Times bestseller. Why not, since said author agreed to do a book signing at Darcy's bookstore, and that's bound to bring in more business. Not to mention that's going to satisfy Becca's crush on said author.   What could go wrong at an auction for an old desk? Nothing, but what happens after the auction raises eyebrows. His home's broken into and the desk's been vandalized. And speaking of raised eyebrows, imagine Pete's when he walks in late at night to process the crime scene and finds Darcy there.   And to think after Darcy's last adventure with the wealthy sector of Cape Hope, she'd be done with attempts on her life. No such luck. And to compound matters, it seems that Ethan's life's at stake as well.
