About this series
Winston’s familiar Ruby, a small black cat, avoids dogs whenever possible. So when Winston finds her in cahoots with a toy poodle-Chihuahua mix, he wants to know why.
Ruby, usually so vocal, says nothing. Her silence, that dog, and a storm in the Oregon Coast community of Seavy Village all combine into one of the most memorable days of Winston’s life.

- Familiar Territory: Winston & Ruby, #1
1
Buster's final wish—a Viking funeral. Although Winston, a small magician with a small talent, wants to give his familiar his ideal funeral, he can't imagine how he'll manage burning boat at sea. Still, a Viking funeral seems a small price to pay for years of companionship. But the funeral might cost Winston more than he realizes. He must break all kinds of laws—magical and otherwise—to give his beloved cat the proper goodbye. "Rusch is a great storyteller." —RT Book Reviews
- Saving Face: Winston & Ruby, #2
2
When a beautiful but scared woman tries to hire Winston Karpathian, he wonders why. Winston possesses only small magic, nothing spectacular, and certainly nothing helpful for a woman like that. But when she turns up dead, Winston must work with a detective who doesn't believe in magic to find the woman's killer. Because Winston believes that the woman's request for a spell might have more to do with her death than the weapon that killed her. "Rusch is a great storyteller." —RT Book Reviews
- Searching for the Familiar: Winston & Ruby, #3
3
When Winston discovers Ruby has vanished, his heart breaks. But he quickly learns that familiars all over the Northwest have gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Winston pledges to find Ruby at any cost. Or he might lose her, his only family, forever. “Rusch is a great storyteller.” —RT Book Reviews
- Disaster Relief: Winston & Ruby, #4
4
Ruby had the idea—help the magic users in New Orleans survive Hurricane Katrina. Pretty charitable for a tiny cat. Winston thought he knew why. The southeast Asia tsunami scared her, made her realize the vulnerability of her home on the Oregon Coast to natural disaster, too. But when her offer of help turns into a rescue, Ruby watches helplessly as other familiars move into her little house. Being, after all, a cat, Winston expects a rebellion… "Rusch is a great storyteller." —RT Book Reviews
