What is that makes a man? Body or soul? What releases the beast within?   No one knows all the atrocities the Nazis committed against the Jewish prisoners in WWII concentration camps. Evidence of the crimes was reduced to silent ashes in the ovens. The few survivors will not speak of the hideous experiments Nazis doctors performed on them. Eva Lachman has told no one of the experiment that led to the birth of her twin boys, Jacob and Esau, at Auschwitz in 1944. She fears what would happen to them if the truth is known. In 1993, Karl Mueller, the Nazi doctor who created the twins, has tracked Eva and her sons to the small town of Fleetwood, Md. He is determined to kill the twins, who are now men in their 40s. He considers it an act of penance for his crime against nature. Daniel Levitt is a Nazi hunter on the trail of Dr. Mueller. Mueller killed his grandparents and left his father a paraplegic while they were at Auschwitz. Daniel is growing weary of his work, but this will be his last mission. He finds Mueller in Fleetwood, but he also finds the Lachman twins. Daniel has spent his life chasing after men whose victims he cannot help, but in Esau Lachman, Daniel might have found someone who needs his help. The Past Present is the first episode in the Beast series. In this story, Daniel is put on the trail of Karl Mueller, who has tracked his own quarry to Fleetwood. Eva has instilled her own fear of Mueller in her boys. In Jacob's case, it has caused a paranoid fear that he is beginning to act upon.

Esau is the son of Eva Lachman who survived Mueller's experiments during WWII. Esau is the result of one of those experiments, a human-gorilla hybrid. He was supposed to be the first of many disposable Nazi super-soldiers, but the experiment went awry. Esau is a twin, although he and his brother, Jacob, appear to have little in common. Jacob is a murderer while Esau is the one who looks like a monster. Now Daniel must decide whether protecting Esau's future is worth getting justice for the past.  

Nazi hunter Daniel Levitt has come to small town of Fleetwood, Md., looking for the notorious Mueller the Mauler, a concentration camp doctor from WWII. However, something that can do worse than Mueller ever did to his victims is prowling and killing in the Western Maryland forest. Daniel is not hunting it, but it may be hunting him. Karl Mueller, Daniel's quarry, has also come to Fleetwood. He is seeking one of his former "patients", Eva Lachman. She has been hiding in Fleetwood for years with her twin sons, but Mueller tracked her down. He is dying and wants to terminate the experiment he started with her in 1944. Victim, abuser, and hunter converge in Fleetwood hunting and avoiding each other, but this can only last for so long in a small town, particularly when the residents are already worried about the brutal deaths nearby. The Hunt Begins is the second episode in the serial story, Beast, that began with The Past Present.

Daniel has also discovered the secret the Mueller and Jacob and Esau's mother, Eva, is trying to hide. It is a secret that has gotten people killed and threatens to kill more.

In the thrilling conclusion to the Beast series, the net is drawing tighter around Esau Lachman, the product of an experiment Karl Mueller, a concentration camp doctor from WWII, performed on Esau's mother, Eva. Hunters are searching for Esau in the woods around Fleetwood, Md. Mueller is hunting him in town, and Eva Lachman wants to imprison Esau to keep him alive. Esau has lived his life hidden away. Now that he has had a taste of freedom, he wants more, but it seems the world is against him. Esau has two allies, Nazi hunter Daniel Levitt and college student Tina Rourke, know who Esau is, and they want to help him. However, three people against an entire town may not be enough. So Esau must face his choice. Should he try and live free and risk being killed or allow himself to be caged as an animal?
