Ellie is now twelve years old, sandwiched between two brothers - twenty-something, Eddie, and Fin, a sticky toddler. Ellie's the middle kid occupying a pretty vague and lonely space.
Ellie's parents swan off to America for the summer leaving her with a rule book and Eddie, for company. Relationships are unsettled and something odd is happening at the Little Egret Hotel.
Feeling abandoned and in need of some sound advice, Ellie can't bring herself to consult the rule book.
The disturbance in the atmosphere is brewing a storm and leads to a moment when Ellie sees something that changes everything.
Ellie journals her strange summer where rules don't seem to matter and life can hang on a decision.

Flinty Maguire grew up by the coast and the sound of seagulls tap dancing on the roof kept her awake. She understood the tides and would head into the sea with a small surf board, unsupervised, and battle with the waves until her teeth chattered. After working in the media and living inland, Flinty returned to the coast. She lives with her husband, two dogs and rescue chickens. She still loves the cry of seagulls.
