Sarah and her cousin, Meagan, are in a grade 12 Geography class that sets out on a year-end class trip for a fun exercise of wilderness survival. Divided into three teams, they'll experience three days of treking along the Snake River and one full day of white water rafting. The grand finale will be the winning team meeting their favorite American Ideal. But the fun quickly turns into a horrific nighmare for Sarah as team conflicts and unusual personal issues creates rebellion among some of the students. Her teacher tries to deal with it but his efforts are useless as circumstances turn into disaster. They find themselves trapped in the path of a deadly mudslide with no way of escape. As Sarah fights against fear and ongoing conflicts, her quest becomes a mission of rescue and survival as she sets out to find her missing teammates in a desperate race against time.

The summer is nearing its end and the first year of college is quickly approaching for Sarah Davies and her cousin Meagan. They take their annual visit with their friends Brad and Ali to their grandparents country home in British Columbia - a parklike setting that backs onto a quiet lake and a deep forest. But as they revel in their final holiday before a new chapter in their lives begins, the girls have no idea that their relaxing respite is about to turn into a horrifying nightmare. Despite their worries about the shabby state of their grandfather's boat, he and his friend set out on a fishing trip, only to radio home a few hours later that the boat has capsized in a secluded bay and they are both injured. The teens have no choice but to venture deep into the unfamiliar forest to find them. Although they are all experienced hikers, they soon realize that this fast-paced, race against time search is being challenged by something far greater than anything they've ever encountered. They must overcome their own fears and conflicts and use every skill imaginable to find the older men - and to stay alive.

It's the winter break during her first year of college, and Sarah Davies is excited to leave for a ski trip in North Dakota with her cousin Meagan their friends Brad and Ali. The long bus ride puts Sarah to sleep and she's overtaken by a horrifying nightmare where she's buried alive. Although she tries to ignore it afterwards, she fears that it's a premonition of things to come. The teens set out for a morning of cross-country skiing with sunny skies and a clear forecast, and although she's still haunted by her dream, Sarah gives in to Meagan's suggestion that everything will be okay. After a day of outdoor fun, they retire to the local resort to wait for Brad's uncle to pick them up. The bright afternoon skies disappear and the weather suddenly changes as a violent storm sets in. They become restless and then receive a distress call from Uncle Hugh and assume he's got car problems at the nearby friend's house where he had spent the day. The teens soon discover that Brad's uncle is in far more danger than they could imagine, and their day of fun turns into a dangerous quest where they all must fight for their survival.

Despite a premonition of danger and feelings of personal conflict with her boyfriend Brad, Sarah Davies is determined to enjoy her family's reunion during the Fourth of July weekend. But the festive atmosphere just outside of Bearsfield, Idaho turns tense when five-year-old Joey, her cousin who suffers from severe autism, disappears from the picnic site. Sarah and her friends join the emergency volunteers to search for Joey before an unexpected summer thunderstorm breaks loose. Joey, partially deaf and driven by fear, doesn't realize danger and he's running scared. Undeterred, Sarah, along with Meagan, Brad and Ali, search relentlessly for him. They find clues that lead them deep into a forest and eventually to the consuming river of raging waters. None of them are prepared for the dangers or the challenges that await them, and nothing scares them more than the fear that they won't be able to get to Joey in time.
