- The Case of Miss Elliott
1
In the title story, a young matron from a convalescent home is found dead in a quiet Maida Vale street. The Daily Telegraph ran an article headed “Murder or Suicide” on the subject of the mysterious death. In “The Hocussing of Cigarette” an earl’s racehorse is the victim of attempted poisoning. “Who Stole the Black Diamonds” concerns a mystery that bewilders police and diplomats across Europe. All of the twelve detective stories in this volume are puzzled over by Orczy’s mysterious armchair detective, the “Old Man In The Corner”.
- The Old Man in the Corner
2
A nameless, eccentric old man, sitting in the corner of a cozy London tea shop, uses pure deduction to solve a series of baffling crimes — from gruesome murders and cases of deadly blackmail, to daring thefts and brilliant deceptions. For devotees of Sherlock Holmes —ingenious, well-crafted twelve mysteries concern a mysterious armchair detective who solves crimes from reports and using logic. The stories describe murders, blackmail, theft and deception, but all have as their setting the fog-cloaked Edwardian streets: Fenchurch Street, Percy Street and Lisson Grove in London. Dublin, Glasgow, and Liverpool are also home to cases that have baffled detectives.
- Unravelled Knots

Unravelled Knots contains thirteen short stories about Bill Owen, aka The Old Man in the Corner, Orzy’s armchair detective who solves crimes for his own entertainment. His listener and protégé is the attractive young journalist Polly Burton. Polly brings him details of obscure crimes baffling the police, which he helps her to solve. She is fascinated by the unlikely unravelings she hears, but despite her sarcasm and pride in her own investigative talents she remains the learner, impressed in spite of herself. This is the last of three books of short stories featuring the detective and follows on from those in The Case of Miss Elliott and The Old Man in the Corner.
Baroness Emmuska Orczy
Baroness Emma Orczy (; 23 September 1865 – 12 November 1947), usually known as Baroness Orczy (the name under which she was published) or to her family and friends as Emmuska Orczy, was a Hungarian-born British novelist and playwright. She is best known for her series of novels featuring the Scarlet Pimpernel, the alter ego of Sir Percy Blakeney, a wealthy English fop who turns into a quick-thinking escape artist in order to save French aristocrats from "Madame Guillotine" during the French Revolution, establishing the "hero with a secret identity" in popular culture.
