Shara had dreams, bad ones, nightmares actually. After encountering the 'light' in the woods, her dreams came night- and day-mares, suddenly snatching her away from the realities of the moment, plunging her into horrible memories; memories she knew she never had. At first, she thought she was going crazy, and then the voices came.   Shara, as did most people in the lovely pine carpeted valley, lived an unsuspecting life in the foreground of a sinister, hidden world of deception and greed. Her life was as normal as anyone's with its usual mix of mysteries and trials. But when Shara's curiosity led her to question the people that had gone missing from the valley, the sudden death of her favorite great aunt, the accident that killed her beloved grandparents, her world took a suddenly terrifying and threatening turn. Then, after her indescribable encounter with the strange light in the forest, Shara's dreams, her nightmares, began to dominate her days as well as her nights, spreading guilt and fear with strange, horrifying, unremembered memories. Even Shara's one piece of stability, her budding friendship with Greg, is threatened when he is named in an attack against her best friend. Shara's sanctuary, her home, the valley, was suddenly flooded with fear and anxiety. The rumors and innuendoes about her friends and then herself quickly became terrifyingly physical, personal, and she knew that to survive when the slavers came after her, she would need more than luck.   The voices and the night and day-mares stole Shara's thoughts as if at the whimsy of some dark deity. She struggled with dark truths placed before her to make her judge, to color her biases and to change her alliances, yet somehow, from somewhere she dug down and grabbed the strength she needed to take the next step, to defy what she was shown, to seek and prove what she knew. The dark world around her threatened to swallow her up, throwing her another curve; attacked by four men sent to drag her into the rituals and ownership of the slave traders, their mission was barely thwarted by an etherial sameritan. Then her hopes were again dashed; her friend Greg disappeared in the fiery wreck of her sports car. With her best friend Jill's help, Shara pulled herself up out of her dispair and prayed for enough luck to confront the darkness and to find the real truth behind the missing people, the rumors of slave traders, of Greg's mysterious past and of things called Shadows. But Shara's luck would not be enough for the truth that awaited.

Being alive, knowing Greg's secrets and being with him felt wonderful! But it was only a matter of time before the slavers realize that she had escaped and would come for her again. Greg's mission was over and he  have to leave, reassigned to fight another part of their vial treachery, and she would once again have to face them…alone, armed only with the help of her few loyal friends and her newly awakening talents.

Captured, poisoned and wished dead by the slavers and her own great aunt, Fate confronted Shara once again. But this time, it would take all of the courage and strength she had to face the challenge set squarely in her path.   Captured and poisoned for her repeated defiance, threatened with torture and a painful death, Shara was afraid and alone; there was no way that anyone could know where she was or could come to help her this time. She knew her time was limited, but she would not let herself quietly sit by and wait. She knew she had to try to escape, she had to tell someone what she had found out, what she knew. But in slipping her fetters, she could only manage to reach the darkness of the forest before the drugs overwhelmed her. She awoke, bewildered and confined, unable to decern how she was still alive or where she was being held. Then her captor, or was he her samaritan, entered and what happened next is the determined, gritty side of the stuff that grand, epic tales of daring do and legends are made of.

Shara was suddenly surrounded by elements of the Galactic Peace Force; Shadows, fighter pilots and marines. Completely unprepared for what would come next, Shara's talents and new alliance with Greg threw her straight into the head-to-head fight against the slave traders.

The fight against the slavers took on a new focus, a larger, more threatening purpose and unexpectedly, Shara found herself at the point of the charge and against odds that were definitely not in her favor.   Joined with Greg in both their lives and their mission, Shara discovers her talents are the keys to many doors leading them ultimately to  locating and identifying the complex and agent at the head of the Terran slaver's operation. Shara trains in the ways of Shadows and as a fighter pilot, growing in capability and importance in the Force's efforts to rid the planet of the slaver's operations. When the time for the attack comes, Shara is again assigned to lead one of the prongs, but there is one critical task that falls to Shara, leading a group of three, before the attack can begin. She just has to find a way inside the heavily guarded facility and do it without being seen or heard or setting off any alarms.

Their war against the slavers goes galactic. Suspect freighters are boarded enroute and their nefarious cargos commandeered. The shippers added defensive fighter escorts and Shara led her squadron on numerous intercept missions in response. They knew the number of fighters would increase with time, but Shara did not expect to come face to face with the Warlord Prince's heavy battlecruisers. - Paladin Shadows #8

Success is a double-edged sword. They needed fighter pilots for the next push in the fight against the slavers, but fighter pilots were in short supply.
