About this series
Campo Imperatore, Abruzzo, Italy.
The well-known mountaineer, ethnologist, writer and photographer Fosco Maraini compared it, on a small scale, to the Phari Dzong valley in Tibet, coining the term Little Tibet which is still in common use today. Passerini has been taking refuge there for more than twenty years, and in this period of time he has taken a series of shots which are now presented in this selection.
The project is a tribute to this plateau surrounded by mountains and crossed by herds of horses, grazing cows, flocks of transhumant sheep with their shepherds and dogs, wolves, birds of prey, and the various wonders that animate it.

"Le valli del Delta del Po sono le protagoniste del progetto di Passerini che con questi scatti decide di raccontare un pezzo del suo cammino. Proprio questi luoghi hanno visto nascere e crescere il padre, di recente scomparso, lasciando al fotografo uno sguardo per inquadrarli e ricostruirli. Due uomini, quattro occhi e una macchina fotografica ci accompagnano alla scoperta di un modo diverso di intendere la fotografia di paesaggio, che sorpassa l’asciutto racconto naturalistico".

Il noto alpinista, etnologo, scrittore e fotografo Fosco Maraini lo paragonò, su piccola scala, alla valle di Phari Dzong, in Tibet, coniando il termine di Piccolo Tibet che è ancora oggi d'uso comune. Passerini vi si rifugia da più di vent'anni, e in questo lasso di tempo ha realizzato una serie di scatti che ora vengono presentati in questa selezione. Il progetto è un omaggio a questo altopiano circondato da montagne e percorso da mandrie di cavalli, mucche al pascolo, greggi di pecore transumanti coi loro pastori e cani, lupi, rapaci, e le diverse meraviglie che lo animano.
