About this series
The presence in Amber of the Cleaven gene means that torment is her constant companion. On completing her rehabilitation on a prison ship which houses those who have been identified with this violent gene, she is recruited by the police to scour through police files looking for tell-tale signs of others similarly inflicted. By night, under guidance of the secret Tracker Guild, she prowls the streets with her man, Jaden, to catch those with the gene using their associated gifts. Amber has the ability to pick up the emotions of those about her while Jaden reads others’ thoughts with stunning clarity.
In a police report of a kidnap victim’s escape, Amber identifies the perpetrator as a possible target. With Frank, a skeptical detective, by her side, she plunges into a nightmare with a gifted opponent who turns the chase into a game of kill or be killed. Meanwhile the Guild discovers an enclave of gifted homeless people who are being targeted by a criminal organisation. These two stories collide threatening all their lives and along the way Amber is forced to face the private hell of her own violent past.

Amber has no reason to leave the daily turmoil of life aboard a prison ship, created to house those with the violent Cleaven gene. Though now rehabilitated, she has chosen to stay and counsel the inmates who struggle to come to terms with their imprisonment. Possessing extraordinary gifts - an ability to assess situations with perfect clarity and to feel the emotions of others - her skills are in great demand in the volatile environment of the ship. Jaden, also rehabilitated and with the special gift of mind reading, ploughs the seas on board the boat that delivers supplies and prisoners to and from the ship. Amber and Jaden are thrown together when the prisoners rebel and an explosion breaches the hull of the ship during a storm. Together they battle the elements, a new, cold-eyed prisoner who has Amber in his sights and their traumatic pasts which sent them to the ship in the first place.

Since a child, I have been driven to explore, look beyond and seek change. This took me to the Fiji Islands on Volunteer Service Abroad at eighteen and after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Auckland, to Italy, where I stayed for the next decade. I had been out to conquer the world but instead met the man who was to become my lifelong companion. While he studied and did military service, I taught English and travelled. But the settling down bug caught up with me. I returned to New Zealand, husband in tow, bought a house, started up a business in the fashion industry and had a baby. For many years we worked, worried, renovated houses and homeschooled our son who now has a degree in architecture and is studying for a second degree in design, specialising in photography. We currently live in a house overlooking the Pacific Ocean and I work in real estate. In my free time, I am a photographer and food blogger. www.strandsofmylife.com is a blog about my food journey towards great health. In my other free time, I write books. Writing is a channel for ideas and feelings which manifest themselves in words to create a story with the ability to make readers feel. I hope I manage to stir the emotions in readers which I experience while writing my novels. I now have eight published books. I read all the time – anything from women’s fiction to thrillers. If I don’t have a book on the go, I feel bereft and centreless. Yes, that’s a word – I think.
