About this series
This exciting story of young Corrie Harriman falling in love for the first time while serving on His Britannic Majesty's ship Swift is based on recent historical research which shows that large numbers of brave women joined the Royal Navy during England's struggle with Napoleon. These women were not allowed to say they were women, and many had to adopt male names and dress as men in order to draw their pay. But they wanted to fight, and fight they did, and perhaps it is time that the part they played in the war was acknowledged.
This is the second volume of The Harriman Adventures. The first volume, dealing with Corrie's entry in the navy and her subsequent promotion, was published recently and titled 'Midshipman Harriman.' A third volume 'Captain Harriman' is in preparation.

You can feel the wind in your face and Napoleon breathing down your neck. Suddenly you’re in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence ready to teach Frigate Captain Jean-Pierre Troude a lesson. But what if somebody finds out who you really are? What if you are wounded in action and carried below to the cockpit? You don’t believe any book could be this gripping? Just read three pages and listen for the cries of the gulls. MIDSHIPMAN HARRIMAN is the first of a series of full length military action novels by Anthony Barton describing the adventures of Jim and Corrie Harriman serving in His Majesty's frigate Swift in the Royal Navy in 1800. In this gripping series Anthony Barton explores what it was like to serve in the days when women were forbidden to fight, and were not even supposed to be in His Majesty's ships, but had the courage to defy convention and to fight alongside men.
