Having been a victim of a rape attempt when I was a teen, the trauma of the event sometimes still sends me into it shuddersome flashbacks ... even after forty years. Thus, it’s the reason I dedicated this book to any woman who has triumphed over such violence. Having said that, fair warning, some of the scenes in this novel are brutal (as rape is). Praise for “RELUCTANT TRUST” Reluctant Trust is out of this world intense. “The Dentist” is totally twisted and the intrigue of the “Vanishing Strip” kept the pages turning for me. I have to admit (don’t tell my wife) I’m falling in love, well maybe infatuation, with Jewels. That babe is a fighter! As I’m reading this story, I’ve concluded Spain has a knack for making you think it’s over, only to hit you with another gruesome situation, almost more terrifying than the first. If you can handle reading about some of the most heinous deeds men can do to women, this book is for you. —StraightShooter “The Dentist” is downright evil, the darkest character of the first three novels, yet again the entire plot is believable. If you follow the news, you will understand just how well Spain delivers on her greatest strength ... telling a tight realistic story. As I reader I HAD to see how Jewels made it out of her seemingly impossible situation. The main characters continue to grow with each novel, but their relationships are not smooth, creating a dynamic that at times is troubled, yet they never fail to support each other in times of need! I wasn’t sure it was possible that Spain could create another unique and vile character, but Lance Dunnaway is forever ingrained in my mind as one extremely diabolical human. Spain’s characters, like evil people in real life, are good at playing the roles of businessman, etc, moving through life without suspicion as if they were ordinary people. Such memorable characters, I believe, make it well worth reading. And Tank is back! What twists come with his storyline. With each book in the series, I have seen Spain grow as a writer, honing her craft to produce books that have high appeal for those of us who love thrillers. They deliver on every level: believable yet twisted bad guys; realistic and complex plot lines; and a couple who will go to any length to protect each other; and are well written. Spain’s passion for creating memorable characters and page turning plots is evident. Each book has shown her growth and strength as a writer. And the Meat Grinder ... Having read the first 4 books in the series, I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think the “meat grinder” is Spain’s most gruesome killer. Talk about sick and twisted! Spain has a way of sucking you into the story, then sucking you into another story within the story. Jewels is gorgeous, as always, but flawed with human traits and bad habits, which is why I think I love her so much. Some of the scenes in this book are horror at it’s best. —B.C. Jordan
