About this series
“Trust no one. To survive to my age, you must judge men’s character well. Fear your enemies, yes. But fear your friends even more.”
With the death of Claudio-Valens Adamantus, many fear the golden age will come to an end. In the Imperial Palace, his wife Anthea struggles to survive conspiracies and assassinations. Her only ally is Melorra, priestess of the mother goddess, whose commitment to nonviolence may prove her undoing.
Though barbarians attack from beyond the northern wall and power-hungry councilors do their best to achieve the White Throne, the greatest threat may come from far away. Scarlet-cloaked refugees and their queen Lidda arrive on ships and defame the gods, proclaiming the Devil has been reborn on the Red Mountain.
The Empire’s only hope may lie in the cryptic words of Anthea’s dreams: “The blood of the god, and the body of adamant.”
RED EMPIRE is the second installment of the Imperial Chronicles.
Titles in the series (5)
- Sons of Empire
The Empire speeds toward a new century, anticipating new heights of prosperity and power but finding its triumphant march forced to a stumble. An official visit from the northman king, Gylles vis Bretagne, is laced with ulterior motives and may lead to a disastrous war. While the supernatural forces of shadow grow beyond the border, elements within the governmental elite tighten the noose. As the crisis deepens, six souls find themselves at the center of it all--six disparate lives, inexplicably yet intricately connected. Six SONS OF EMPIRE.
- The Will of Imperium
In a long-planned, perfectly executed coup, the Academies of Eloesus overthrow the Imperial government and transport a foreign army to the Empire's shores, intending to remake the nation according to their utopian vision. As cities fall and the nation slips toward certain annihilation, the lone voice of Imperium calls out for a renewed rise of an empire, and a deluge of traitors' blood. The fifth and final novel of the Imperial Chronicles series, which began in Unconquered Son.
- Shadow and Flame
The Empire has reached its zenith of power and prosperity, but things are rarely as they seem... As shadow spreads across the world, the Revered Order of Hunters scours the provinces for demon shrines and their fiendish worshipers, all while an eerie silence south of the Imperial border hints of a gathering storm. The emperor Severus struggles to maintain the recent peace and harmony, though he knows the growing dark touches all strata of society, from the highest official to the lowliest street actor, and no one is worthy of trust. Far away, unbeknownst to the southron King of Kings and the Imperial government, the brother-sister heirs to the Red Throne of Haroon lay in hiding. But as a dark faith spreads by the sword across the Southern World, plunging ancient nations into chaos, not even well-born monarchs will escape these trials of SHADOW AND FLAME.
- Unconquered Son
The Empire teeters on the brink of collapse. A hedonistic teen assumes the throne under false pretenses while a slave rebellion erupts in the north. The southern King of Kings, sensing weakness, sets his eyes on his vulnerable foe. In the midst of the growing tumult, a young man from the Empire's hinterlands grudgingly heads to Imperial City. There, Claudio-Valens sees firsthand the weak, treasonous Imperial Council that aids foreign enemies, and finds himself at the center of the fight to save the country he loves. What follows is a tale of desert queens and legionaries, of mad girls with great gifts and scheming highborn ladies, of gods both human and divine, that will forever transform the world they know.
