    When seven stones and a prophecy find their way into the hands of Queen Eranel of Albradan, no one knows what to make of them. The prophecy speaks of an ominous tide that is rising to threaten the stability of the realm, yet there is no evidence that anything is amiss. However, the Royal Palace in Kuon begins to take the prophecy more seriously when several unsettling events begin to unfold across the Kingdom.

    It is against this backdrop of surface stability and secret concerns that seven people are summoned to the Queen's Court in the capital.

    One of them is Illiom, a young woman with problems of her own. Disinterested in the machinations of politics and blissfully unaware of any dire portents, Illiom lives her life absorbed by her own set of riddles. For Illiom has no traceable genealogy. She is a foundling who forever questions and doubts herself and fails to understand the purpose of her life.

    She believes herself to be tainted; something in her past must account for the curse of power that she keeps deeply buried. This is a land where magic is mistrusted, and those who wield it are shunned, if not persecuted. It is this unhealthy legacy of power that has driven Illiom to seek refuge in the mountains, where isolation seems to offer the only protection for her.

    Now Illiom’s self-imposed isolation is coming to an end: someone is coming for her, to summon and draw her out of hiding and take her, willing or not, back to the world of humans, to the very place where she feels most vulnerable.

    ‘Illiom, Daughter of Prophecy’, is the first book of the ‘Destiny of Fire’ trilogy, an epic fantasy series that follows Illiom as she emerges from her exile, leaving the security of her mountains behind, only to find herself thrown in with a bunch of misfits from across the land. Sharing almost nothing in common with each other, save a mysterious summons to address the growing crisis. These seven Chosen of Prophecy must reconcile their differences before they can embark on their quest to face the threat that is rolling uncontrollably to meet them.

    Will they learn to follow the signs and portents in time to resolve a crisis of mythic proportions? Will Illiom find her true self in time to be of any use to anyone, including herself?

At the time it was a city-state in its own right, nowadays it's a part of Italy.I spent the first 18 years of my life bouncing between Trieste and Australia - the latter eventually won.I discovered the fantasy genre in my thirties and I have never looked back. Sadly I find that quite a lot of the fantasy I come across is quite mediocre, so I have decided to add to it myself - and you, the reader, may judge whether I have succeeded in lifting or in lowering its standard...When I read a book, I want to be taken on a journey that is at once believable, captivating, completely enthralling and preferably free of clichés. I do not care for formula writing - or formula anything, for that matter.I want to feel the world depicted on the page and interact with the characters as if they were incarnate before me.I want to feel, for a time, as if the hero or heroine's flesh is forming itself around my bones, that I am living the tale that is being spun and that I will emerge enriched by the experience.Perhaps I've set the benchmark too high... but I hope that I will always strive for the heights, even if they are beyond my current reach.How else am I going to grow?
