Joe Holiday, an ex Metro cop, finds himself dragged into an investigation by Mia, an IHOP waitress. The probing they do into the murder of Mia's sister years earlier turns into a deadly manhunt with Joe and Mia suddenly becoming the targets of a vicious plot.

Joe and Coop are in the private detective business. Their first case - find a boy who vanished five years earlier and recently has been spotted by his sisters. At the same time Joe is trying to prove that brother, Frank, is not responsible for his ex-fiance's death. To make things worse, Janille's love life is a problem Joe doesn't want but has. Clearwater Diaries is the continuing story of Joe "Doc" Holiday & Mia and the life they enjoy in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Many of the characters found in Clearwater Journals carry over into this story. Joe owes Fred Cooper - the retired cop who extricated him from serious criminal charges - a big favor. When Coop's brother-in-law goes missing, he calls on Doc to help him find the guy. Doc isn't convinced that the brother-in-law is worth the effort but agrees to lend a hand. When Danny, the grandson of Doc's friend Ida May Thornberry is found shot in the parking garage of the Mandalay Towers - and there is a connection to Coop's missing brother-in-law - Doc goes all in.

Joe is about to be deported. Mia doesn't want to leave her home and friends. An unlikely compromise with Homeland Security is brokered by Bob Morse. CHIPS continues to thrive as Doug attracts wealthy clients looking for protection. Another child has gone missing leaving Fred and Billy puzzled. Janille finds a new job.
