With winter over, Alyssa and Kyra move on to Harrisburg. They soon find the community they are seeking: A conclave of scientists using their knowledge to assist in their survival. They find much to learn and contribute, and perhaps even finding new love. However, shadows lurk even here. They quickly find that the community is not all that it seems.

- First Encounter
It took a month of hard travel to find their first survivor community. After a cool welcome and a meager feast, Alyssa and Kyra find that the community has very restrictive the roles they expect women to take. Imprisoned and starved, a young woman befriends them at great risk to herself. When the woman tells them the men of the community are bidding on Kyra to take to wife, they form a plan to escape. Weak, hungry and afraid, will Alyssa and Kyra have the strength to escape certain slavery?
- The Downtrodden
Hardship, hunger, and thirst plague Kyra and Alyssa after their escape from the Children of God. A lucky find allows them to re-arm and resupply. Now they've found another survivor community and after watching the place for two days they decide to risk introducing themselves. They're greeted with enthusiasm at the door but by that evening, find they're trapped again in a community teetering on the brink of desperation. The survivors beg Kyra to help them remove the community's leader but her plan pushes her to her limits. Can she carry out the plan or will she and Alyssa join the ranks of the downtrodden?
- Kindred Spirits
Alyssa and Kyra are on the move again, and winter is almost upon them. Finding another community is crucial for gaining shelter over the coldest months, and their prayers soon seem to be answered when they come across the Ogonqwa tribe in Ohio. There is much to be learned from their new hosts, both for Kyra, who gets an in-depth view into the warrior clan, and for Alyssa, who finds she might have more skills than she’d ever expected. But not everybody is delighted with the strangers’ arrival in the serene community, and tensions mount as winter approaches. Will Alyssa and Kyra be allowed to overwinter within the safety of these walls? Or will they be put out in the cold?
