About this series
Having met Joe and Jeanie Bravo in The Day of the Dragonfly, their adventures continue in Myrtle Mountain when they travel separately to the tiny European country of Libelulonia to join an expedition to the Malagashi Mountains, organised by their dear friend, Dougie McBride Adjabanko, brother to the King of Libelulonia and current Minister for the Environment. Initially, Jeanie is delighted to make friends with the glamorous Maude on the ́plane, but when she sees how Maude manages to wangle her way onto their expedition and into the affections of Dougie, Jeanie rapidly changes her mind, and begins to wonder what exactly Maude is up to? Joe, having travelled to Libelulonia overland by motorbike, meets with the young Hollywood actress, Elizabeth Knight, along the way, never realising that he has a lot more in common with her than he could ever have imagined. The members of the expedition are invited to stay at the ancient monastery of San Fiacre in the Malagashi Mountains ("malagashi" being the Libelulonian for "myrtle"). However, an expedition that should have been fun and scientific turns nasty when an irreplaceable old book of medicinal plants is stolen from the monastery library and the children's mother is accused of the theft. Jeanie, suspicious of Maude and her relationship to one of the young monks, enlists the help of Ivo, the son of one of the expedition's scientists, to find the book and clear her mother's name. Ivo not only proves to be the ideal partner in adventure, but awakens feelings in Jeanie that she has never encountered before!

I grew up on the southern coast of Ireland, and now live in a small village outside Madrid with my husband and two children. I previously worked in education and publishing in Spain, and at the World Bank in Washington. I have been writing all mylife, but The Day of the Dragonfly is the first novel I have published for children. Although I would strenuously deny it in a court of law, mytwo children were the initial inspiration for the book, though neither of the main characters even remotely resembles them. For one, they are not half as tidy, and hate junk food. I particularly wanted to write a story which would amuse and interest my own children. My childhood was filled with books and the highlight of the week was the Saturday morning visit to the library. Favourite authors were Malcolm Saville, Enid Blyton, Noel Streatfield, C.H.Abrahall and I loved the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mystery stories.Reading continues to be a passion and my favourite writers are Barbara Kingsolver, Annie Proulx, Joseph O’Connor and Colm Toibín. I also adore the books of JK Rowling, Roald Dahl and Philip Pullman. My hobbies include wildlife observation, particularly birds, but anything will do; walking in the countryside; gardening and travelling. Recent thrilling experiences include being chased up a tree by wild boar; falling off my bike and breaking my shoulder; and cleaning out my son’s wardrobe. And finally, I am very proud to say my thirteen year old daughter, Inés, designed the cover for the book.
