About this series
The year is 64 A.D. -- though now A.D. stands for Anno Daemonii.
Demons have crossed a gate into our world, taking the reins of power
from humanity. A new Inquisition has begun, determined to root out any
who stand against the new world order. The holy sites on earth have
been destroyed -- Jerasulem first, then the Vatican, then Mecca -- and
what resistance remains is ruthlessly crushed. Amaranth is a fighter
in the resistance cell based in London. Dham is a Ringer, one of the
few people left able to ring the remaining sets of blessed hand bells
that have power over demons. When Amaranth discovers that her best
friend has been possessed by a demon and is going to be used in the
Resistance's final, desperate mission, she asks Dham for his help in
saving her friend. With the Inquisition closing in and betrayal
threatening from inside the Resistance itself, Amaranth, Dham, and the
demon -- along with Catriona, a new, highly-skilled, highly-blonde
bell-ringer -- decide to head to Rome and the ruins of Vatican City,
hoping to find a way to stem the tide of demonic possessions and close
the gate.

After a disastrous mission and betrayal from within its own ranks, the London Resistance is shattered beyond repair. Amaranth and the meager remains of the Resistance journey to Vatican City, where they hope to discover the true location of the Demon's Gate. Should they find and destroy it, the demons would be forced back to their own world, and the spell binding Amaranth to a demon would break. But on their heels comes Raulston, a powerful man hell-bent on crushing an resistance to the demons that are destroying the remnants of humanity. Amaranth and her closest companions--Dham and Cat--will do whatever it takes to ensure humanity's survival. With Amaranth's magical powers, and Dham and Cat's rare ability to kill demons using sacred bells, they might stand a chance against the demon invasion. But as the trio face life, death, and the in-between, their devotion to each other may be what brings their downfall.
- The Demon's Gate
3
Amaranth's desperate gamble to buy Dham and the Resistance time has paid off: they have the location of the Demon's Gate. But she is now a prisoner of Raulston and the Inquisition, and he will stop at nothing to get the answers he seeks. With her friends dead or scattered, and with no hope of rescue, Amaranth can only hope Dham will be able to make his way to Edinburgh, Scotland and close the Gate before he's discovered. But as one of the last living magicians, Amaranth finds her mission is not yet finished. With the help of friends--old and new--she must draw on skills she didn't even know she had. Pursued by dangerous enemies and surrounded by magic, she will need to sacrifice everything she holds dear if humanity has a hope of surviving.
