About this series

A young woman falls to her death in a crowded shopping mall during the Black Friday sales frenzy. Her family think it must have been a tragic accident. The police suspect it was suicide. But Zukie Merlino thinks Mimi Carr was murdered, and she sets out to prove it, with the reluctant assistance of her cousin Lou. Will some leftover turkey, a parking ticket and a pair of high-heeled boots  be convincing enough evidence?

Confined to quarters but still able to cause chaos, Zukie discovers something nasty in the fish pond, shares her bedroom with a strange man and worst of all, is forced to eat someone else's cooking.

Zukie Merlino finds it hard to settle back into her daily routine after the trip of a lifetime, so she's pleased to receive an invitation to her high school reunion. Not only will it break the boredom, but also give her the chance to confront Sylvia, a woman she's hated for years. Away from her cousin Lou's disapproving eyes for once, Zukie is enjoying herself greatly at the reunion, right up to the point where Sylvia's body is discovered. Zukie knows she's not the guilty party – but the only way of clearing her name is to provide an alibi she doesn't want to give.

Author

Cynthia E. Hurst

Cynthia E. Hurst is the author of the R&P Labs Mysteries, featuring five Seattle scientists with a talent for solving mysteries matched only by their ability to stumble over them in the first place. The Zukie Merlino Mysteries are a spinoff of these, with the main character first appearing in the R&P short story 'Halfbaked'. Like her characters, Cynthia grew up in Seattle, then earned a degree in journalism and worked on several newspapers and magazines in the US and UK. The R&P books are based on her time spent in the small research lab where her parents both worked, and many of the R&P staff's projects are ones actually undertaken by the lab. The Zukie books were inspired by her Italian relatives. In both cases, the murders remain fictional.
