Every time I go to this river and see the stark plains, rolling hills and buttes, I can only think of the bad day at the office General Custer had, wishing he never got on his horse that June day as his troops were rightly so demolished by the proud natives. As opposed to Custer on the other hand, those German brown trout settlers to the new world that swam up the Big Horn from the Yellowstone; or were haphazardly stocked by a settler’s milk canister, were on the road to a trutta Mecca. Once they felt the Bighorn’s cold waters and tasted the amazingly fertile food-rich fauna, they established one of the finest brown trout dynasties on the planet.
