The altercation between Val and Everett continued in the basement. Doris followed the sheriff’s orders and returned upstairs to draw, Evangeline left as well, though only after Val was staked, un-staked, and staked again and Everett ordered her to leave, and finally Val put Everett into torpor with her fists and brought his limp body upstairs to gloat. The compulsion has ended and the beast is at bay, but is it too late for Everett Fry?
