High school dress codes are notoriously problematic because the students who are targeted most often are girls, LGBTQ+ youth, and students of color. Stories make it to the news semi regularly. A girl sent home for not wearing a bra, a boy sent home for dreadlocks, or a boy wearing nailpolish. When Trevor Wilkinson was sent to the office for coming to school with his nails done, it wasn’t his first dress code violation. Since coming out as gay, he felt like he was scrutinized more than ever.
