Rav Chaim Brim’s Niggun
Once, when Rav Avraham Chaim Brim arrived at a wedding celebration, the band quickly switched to a tune that was known as one of Rav Chaim’s favorites. All the participants at the simcha welcomed Rav Chaim into the circles of dancing with renewed joy. But Rav Chaim was troubled. As he had entered the wedding hall, he noticed a bochur on the stage who was singing a different niggun, and the Rav’s entry had caused the band to switch tunes, leaving the bochur with no choice but to put down the microphone and join in with the dancing.
“Who was the bochur who was singing before I came in?” Rav Chaim began asking people, alarmed at the distress he had caused the young man. He asked and asked, but no one had been paying sufficient attention to recall.
Finally, after the wedding was over, Rav Chaim managed to identify the bochur who had been singing, and he approached him, begging forgiveness for the distress he had caused him.
The bochur was taken aback. “What could the Rav possibly mean? I wasn’t hurt at all by the Rav’s arrival!”
Despite the bochur’s insistence that he had not been hurt, Rav Chaim asked fervently that the bochur forgive him for having deprived him of finishing the song he’d been singing.
May we all be zocheh to develop such sensitivity to our fellow yidden!!
