Jets Draft Likes, Dislikes, and Thoughts Episode 856 4/28/20: We now have the full 2020 NFL Draft class for the Jets. On yesterday's podcast I went through pick by pick and offered thoughts on each player the Jets added. On today's show I give thoughts on the big picture. What did I like? What didn't I like? What did I notice? I think any discussion of likes has to start with the offensive line. After years of ignoring the trenches in the early stages of the Draft, the Jets used the eleventh pick and another top 130 pick on offensive line prospects. They also added additional picks during the value stages of the Draft. These were among my likes. What about dislikes? The addition of Denzel Mims feels like a great value, but only adding one receiver in a deep class at the position feels like a missed opportunity. What is a general thought? The Jets clearly valued measurables in this Draft. Whether that will ultimately prove to be a successful approach is unclear. Draft Day Episode 853 4/23/20: The 2020 NFL Draft begins today. Tonight the first round gets underway around 8:00 pm Eastern. It will be televised on ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network. Rounds two and three will take place on Friday night, and the fourth through seventh rounds will happen on Saturday. The Jets currently hold the eleventh overall pick in the Draft. That, of course, could change if they decide either to trade up or trade down. On today's podcast I discuss tonight's possibilities. I do not think the Jets should be seeking a trade up. They will have a good option at pick number eleven even if it is not their first choice. There are a number of good prospects at tackle and wide receiver. Whether the Jets keep the third pick or trade down, the team's eventual pick will likely be viewed as either filling a need or the best player available (ideally both). This is how these picks tend to be evaluated. For a long time I have felt like this thinking was too simplistic. I think there are considerations that go beyond these two concepts. In addition, I think there are complex elements that go into what constitutes the best player available and a team's most pressing need.
