Jets Positional Draft Thoughts Episode 845 4/13/20: The 2020 NFL Draft is almost here. The annual event is scheduled for late next week. The Jets currently own the eleventh overall selection, a second round pick, and a pair of third rounders (in addition to their day three picks). There are many goals for the NFL Draft. The most important of these goals is to add desperately-needed young talent to the roster to finally move forward a seemingly perennial rebuild. Another goal which is not totally separate has to be improving critical positions of need. That is the topic of today's podcast. On the show I give some thoughts on how I think the Jets should approach the 2020 Draft from a positional standpoint. Some positions are more important than others in the NFL. Some positions have a deeper class than others in 2020. Some positions are in worse shape than others for the Jets. Some positions are important for long-term investment. On yesterday's podcast I went through pick by pick and offered thoughts on each player the Jets added. On today's show I give thoughts on the big picture. What did I like? What didn't I like? What did I notice? I think any discussion of likes has to start with the offensive line. After years of ignoring the trenches in the early stages of the Draft, the Jets used the eleventh pick and another top 130 pick on offensive line prospects. They also added additional picks during the value stages of the Draft. These were among my likes. What about dislikes? The addition of Denzel Mims feels like a great value, but only adding one receiver in a deep class at the position feels like a missed opportunity. What is a general thought? The Jets clearly valued measurables in this Draft. Whether that will ultimately prove to be a successful approach is unclear.
