Locked on Jets 12/3/18 Episode 522: A Disgrace in Nashville: In a season that has been full of embarrassments, the Jets outdid themselves yesterday in Nashville. They managed to lose a game in which the Tennessee Titans did everything within their power to throw it away. They managed to lose a game they led by 16 points. They managed to lose a game they only trailed for 36 seconds. I could probably go on all day about how improbable this loss was. It was a stunning display of ineptitude even for this team. On today's podcast I try to put my state of disbelief aside to talk about what happened. This was the worst loss in a laughable season. Locked on Jets 12/17/18 Episode 532: Darnold Thrives; Jets Lose: The Jets had an early game this week as they played the Houston Texans Saturday afternoon in the Meadowlands. In a way the result was familiar. The team lost for the tenth time this season, clinching a third consecutive season with double digit losses. Unlike many of the 2018 defeats, however, there was at least something of a silver lining from the game. Sam Darnold played extremely well for the Jets. The year is all about the rookie quarterback for the Jets so seeing him thrive is an encouraging development for the team's future, particularly since the 2018 season is long lost. Almost every positive play from the Jets on Saturday was a result of Darnold doing something really well. On today's podcast we look back at the game and discuss Darnold's performance along with the downside to Darnold doing it all, the struggles of the cornerbacks, and more. These New York rivals play each year in the preseason but only once every four years in a game that actually matters. The last two times these teams met in the regular season, a lot was on the line. In both 2011 and 2015 the Jets and Giants played December games with both teams in the Playoff race. In 2011 the Giants beat the Jets in a Christmas Eve game that propelled the Giants on a Super Bowl run while Rex Ryan never again seriously contended for a Playoff spot. Four years later the tables were turned as the Jets registered a stunning comeback victory that helped to speed the demise of Tom Coughlin. Sunday's game has far less at stake.
