Locked on Jets 7/26/18 Episode 433: The Mechanics of Negotiating a Rookie Deal: It begins. Today the Jets reported to training camp. This is a time of great excitement each year as it signals we are getting closer to the NFL season. This year it is especially exciting around the Jets because they have a new blue chip quarterback prospect, Sam Darnold. Of course, there is a bit of apprehension around the fanbase because Darnold has yet to sign with the team on reporting day. On our podcast this evening, we discuss the mechanics of a rookie deal and what potential problems could cause negotiations to hit a snag. Any potential hurdles seem so small that it probably should make you rest a little bit easier about Darnold signing his deal soon. On a superficial level, there are some similarities. In both instances, the Jets traded up into the top five to land a new signal caller. Both Mark Sanchez and Sam Darnold attended USC in college. Those are indeed superficial comparisons, however. These are two different players, and they entered different circumstances. Those differences are the focus of our podcast today. Catching Up on Jets and NFL News Episode 839 4/3/20: On today's podcast we catch up on some of the news from this week. The NFL officially decided to expand the Playoffs. Starting in 2020 there will be fourteen teams in the postseason instead of twelve and seven from each conference instead of six. It was an incredibly detailed look at the inner workings of the Jets' front office as they tried to find a franchise quarterback. I think it is one of the best sports articles of the year. Over the last few days, I have been thinking a lot about how the Jets handled their scouting this year. The Breer article provided us with a lot of information. I thought Mike Maccagnan and company came out looking great. There were several positives I took from the plan. That is the topic of today's podcast. It is no secret that this front office has had its ups and downs over the last four years. Jets Offensive Expectations Episode 876 5/27/20: Most weeks were a struggle for the Jets offense in 2019. The reasons for this were numerous. The talent level was low. The quarterback missed three games. Other obstacles emerged. The coaching also didn't do much to make things better.
