Description

Expanding and lifting. The Hubble – Lemaitre Law: v=H0D V (Velocity) equals D (distance) times H-nought (the Hubble-Lemaitre constant).   This formula describes the relationship between the distance of galaxies and the velocity at which they are receding from us. Put simply it says the farther away a galaxy is, the faster it is receding.   This relationship has been widely accepted as evidence that the Universe must be expanding, with the notable exception of Edwin Hubble who was happy there was a relationship between the redshift of galaxies and their distance, but never really accepted it as evidence that the whole Universe was expanding.   We've added a new way to donate to 365 Days of Astronomy to support editing, hosting, and production costs.  Just visit: https://www.patreon.com/365DaysOfAstronomy and donate as much as you can! The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast is a project that is publishing one podcast per day, 5 to 10 minutes in duration, for all 365 days of the year. The podcast episodes are written, recorded and produced by people around the world. We are looking for individuals, schools, companies and clubs to provide 5 - 10 minutes of audio for the daily podcast. You can do as few as 1 episode or up to 12 episodes (one per month, subject to our editorial discretion). Our goal is to encourage people to sign up for a particular day (or days) of the year.
