Description

Damon and Damo are joined by “DGUTS,” the host of popular military podcast, “Don’t Give Up The Ship.” They begin the episode discussing the “potluck etiquette.” Happy birthday Damon!  Don’t forget to show him some love. Damo recalls his experience serving as a courtesy CACO for a Planeside Honors ceremony. The guys discuss a story about a Sailor who made Chief but rejected the anchors and decided to remain a First Class Petty Officer. A question from a listener regarding the Sailor of the Year program and meritorious advancement for Sailors of the Year. This brings up a slew of thoughts about boardsmanship, package writing, and program elements they believe can be improved. DGUTS shares his experience of when he attended a Chief advancement board. Should the ‘Sailor of the Year’ always be the No.1 EP. Speaking of “EPs,” the guys go in on the eval system (just a little). How much does the person “representing” you mean at a ranking board? Should that matter? Do Better: Gym Cleanliness (Damo), Piggybacking Gifts (Damon), Chief’s Mess that are still trying not to accept new Chiefs (DGUTS). How much does the Chief Initiation vary command to command? An army wife used a tracking device to catch a moving truck driver in a lie. Is she right or wrong? DGUTS discussed converting to visual platforms and his reasoning for not showing his face or using his name. The guys “nerd out” a little about content creation and social media. DGUTS discusses his experiences dealing with bad leadership. He also discusses negative stereotypes about cooks in the Navy, through the lens of his experiences on submarines. DGUTS recalls his experience with cancer, from being diagnosed, to treatment, to recovery, to his emotional reaction to dealing with all of this. He also talks about depression and suicidal thoughts. These and more topics are covered in this episode. Remember to follow the ‘Permission to Speak Freely’ podcast on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and subscribe on YouTube.
