He is a Registered Member Psychoanalyst and has served as a former member of the board of governors of the College of Psychoanalysts-UK. His PhD research focused on the cognitive model of depression, which informs cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and the effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants (SSRIs) on cognition in depression.
