The Powell Family Tragedy - True Crime Documentary

THE SAD STORY OF POWELL FAMILY.

Josh killed himself and his two sons in a planned blast in 2012, three years after his wife Susan Cox Powell vanished. Susan was allegedly murdered, and her husband was a person of interest in the investigation. Josh was only allowed supervised visits with his kids, but when they were dropped off, he shoved the supervisor out the door and set fire to the house. Within three minutes, firefighters arrived, but it was too late.

The horrifying circumstances of the brutal double murder added to the already troubling nature of the case. The bodies of the boys, Charlie, 7, and Braden, 5, were discovered with injuries that showed Powell attempted to kill them with a hatchet before setting fire to his Graham, Washington rental property.

The boys' injuries were discovered in their autopsy, according to Melissa Baker of the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office, despite the fact that they died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Susan Powell was last seen alive on Sunday, December 9, 2009, after attending church. She didn't show up for work the next day, and no one dropped off the boys, who were four and two at the time, at daycare. Susan's keys, wallet, and cell phone were discovered at the family's home in West Valley City, Utah. Susan's body was never discovered.
