His family moved to Birmingham from Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he spent several years working as the president of one of the nation’s most successful towing companies and volunteering as a youth pastor at New Life Church. Once Pastor Layne arrived at Highlands, he pioneered Highland’s Student Ministries program as well as the Highlands Leadership Institute, which eventually became Highlands College.
