The government has announced that in 2024 the BBC licence fee will rise by £10.50. The fee, which had been frozen at £159 two years ago, was expected to rise in line with inflation but Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer has said the predicted increase of £15 would "absolutely" be too much. The government is also launching a review of the BBC's funding model.The governing body of the BBC has said the below-inflation rise will “have a significant impact on the wider creative sector across the UK”.So what would a new funding model look like, and what does this mean for the future of the BBC?On the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson talks to Roger Mosey, former head of BBC Television News, and Alice Enders, director of research at Enders Analysis about what could come next.
