Nancy Kates, a Jewish filmmaker and member of the LGBT community, has a unique personal and professional connection to Rustin's narrative. Her documentary, "Brother Outsider: The Life Of Bayard Rustin," has been pivotal in bringing Rustin's significant yet often overlooked contributions to a wider audience, and elements of this work have been foundational for the upcoming Netflix feature.
