Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.   The term Wicked Problems was originally coined in an academic paper authored by design theorists Horst Rittel and Melvin Webber over 50 years ago. While there are many attributes that define a Wicked problem, generally they are based on problems that are fast evolving with no clear solution or where the solution generates further problems and a level of residual risk that is potentially worse than the initial issue itself. Fast forward to today, Risk Managers and Leaders try and grapple with the reality of a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous, and Digital (VUCAD) world that challenges us with more and more Wicked Problems.
