In this episode, we welcome Vincent “Rocco” Vargas to the show. He is a retired US Army Ranger (2nd Battalion of the 75 Ranger Regiment) and former Federal Agent with the Department of Homeland Security. He is also an entrepreneur, actor, writer, producer, and speaker. He is most known for his depiction of the character Gilly Lopez on the show Mayans M.C. (an offshoot of Sons of Anarchy). Additionally, he is the author of the new book Borderline: Defending the Home Front. This book details his time spent protecting the southern border of the United States as a member of the US Border Patrol. In this interview, we discuss why he was interested in becoming an Army Ranger, the long process of becoming a border patrol agent, the day-to-day tasks that border patrol agents perform, why Americans struggle to differentiate between border security and immigration, whether or not the US should build a wall across the entire border, whether or not we should consider militarizing our southern border, what it was like for a hispanic man to work keeping other hispanics from entering the US, what should be done about the “Dreamers”, what it was like transitioning from the Border Patrol to acting, and much more.
