Description

Dr. Kris August was born and raised in Tuscon, Arizona. She got her DVM from Colorado State University in 1991, then returned to Arizona with her husband, Radford Davis DVM. After working in various small animal practices she and her husband relocated to Ames, Iowa when he took a position at Iowa State University.

After some time raising children and investigating her interest in herbal medicine, Dr. August started a mobile practice including a focus on hospice and palliative care. She is certified by the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC) and has contributed to the text Hospice and Palliative Care for Companion Animals, published in 2017.

Dr. August was in the first cohort of of CIVT's Graduate Diploma of Veterinary Western Herbal Medicine program. A large part of her practice is now Western Herbal Medicine.

Dr. August teaches Western Herbs for Purple Moon Herbs and Studies and participates in the certification process for the IAAHPC.
