Description

You knew we had to talk about that interview. THAT interview. The one where Harry and Meghan slammed the “Expose” button on The Royal Family. Yes this is a huge cultural moment and so deserves attention for that but even more so, this interview felt important to discuss because on some level, Meghan’s experience in The Royal Family echoes and mirrors the experiences Black women have everyday. Being gaslit, being watched under a microscope, being unduly criticized, being accused of making a white woman cry, being told that you and/or your children do not deserve the same rights and protections because of your skin. There is a whole host of privilege involved here (both due to wealth and colorism), but there are also points of connection, a subtle sameness. So I wanted to discuss those, as well as highlight the similarities between hers and the late Princess Diana’s stories. It’s a lot so let's get into it!
