Description

India have made it 2 in 2 in the World Cup 2023, much like their arch-rivals Pakistan. The two teams could not have asked for better start to their campaigns before the marquee India vs Pakistan match, scheduled for October 14 in Ahmedabad. India laid down an early marker with a convincing win over Australia in Chennai but they showcased their ruthless side against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11. On a flat batting pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jasprit Bumrah’s best-ever World Cup figures of 4 for 39 helped India restrict Afghanistan to 272 after which it a Rohit Sharma show. India chased down the target in just 35 overs as Rohit Sharma hit an 84-ball 131, tearing into the Afghanistan bowling attack. It was Rohit’s only 2nd hundred in 2023 and the skipper broke a series of records. Rohit broke Sachin Tendulkar's record for most hundreds in the tournament history. Rohit also got to his hundred in just 63 balls, breaking Kapil Dev's record (72) for the fastest hundred in World Cups by an Indian batter. Rohit Sharma was named the Player of the Match but quite a few argued it should have been Jasprit Bumrah. And then there was the highlight of the match where Virat Kohli patched up with Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq after their ugly IPL spat. India will start the big-ticket match as clear favourites. Questions were asked about Pakistan's over-reliance on Babar Azam and the rest of the top-order before they headed to the World Cup. However, Mohammad Rizwan and newbie Abdullah Shafique put those doubts to rest when they scripted Pakistan's World Cup record chase against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Pakistan hadn't successfully chased more than 265 in their World Cup history before Tuesday, but they gunned down 345 to script a new tournament record. And their successful run chase came after their batting superstar, Babar Azam, was out for 10. The Hyderabad leg of Pakistan's campaign was a super hit. How Ahmedabad pans out can be a defining bit of their World Cup journey. Tune in! Produced and Sound Mix By- Kapil Dev Singh
