(10/3/23) The Volatility Index (VIX) has been on the rise for the past month, and now seems to have peaked. We're now watching for a buy signal as we get into the seasonally strong period of the year. Did the de-dollarization story just play out? Anytime there's high inflation,  foreign currencies experience additional headwinds, particularly if there is a deviation between their currency and the dollar. It's a combination of dealing with inflation and the deviation in currency rates: A double tax, which is why some countries were trying to figure out how to do business not in the dollar. Since then, the dollar has rallied strongly, and is now extremely over-bought. Expect some weakness to return, but for now, dollar strength remains as foreign currency flows into the dollar to buy US Treasuries.
