Description

This one is pretty depressing. Nagorno-Karabakh has fallen to Azerbaijan. More quickly than most expected. Tens of thousands of Armenians are leaving their homes behind. More quickly than most expected. Today we go beyond the cartoonish way this is being covered elsewhere to explore the historical context, recent developments, and the various geopolitical forces at play in this conflict-ridden region.

We go back to the 1990s, the 1920s, and even further to lay out why the Armenians being ethnically cleansed this week should reserve at least a slice of their rage for their own leadership. From the ceasefire agreements to the plight of the local population, we aim to provide a comprehensive analysis of what's happening in Nagorno-Karabakh and pay tribute to the full tragedy of this grimly historic moment.

The More Freedom Foundation is trying to save the world every week. We’re at an odd point in history. We could be on the cusp of a new Golden Age, or we could be marching down the path to World War III. Despite the picture presented by most of our media, the world really is in great shape. The world is governed by US power and a set of institutions that have largely succeeded in bringing about unparalleled peace and prosperity. The only country strong enough to tear down this Pax Americana is the US itself.
