December in modern-day Chicago. Four friends and colleagues from the university play a friendly game of poker: Emily Strauss and Josh Simmons - Professors of Anthropology and Linguistics respectively, Vee Carter - IT Tech and hacker extraordinaire, and Aaron Macks - campus police officer. Absent is their mutual friend Carl Day, a private investigator who’s busy working a case. They haven’t heard from him in a little while, until a strange phone call the next day…
