The lead actor of the financially-troubled, accident-prone Broadway musical "Icarus" falls to his death after his safety wire is cut. Goren and Eames learn the show's demanding director (Cynthia Nixon) couldn't convince the producer to fire him and wanted his understudy to perform that night for the benefit of a theater critic.
